Self- Medication & Transformation

I’ve been struggling to blog on a regular basis because I’m thinking about how others think I “should” blog!

Worrying about what others think silences my voice!

So, what has been on my mind and in my heart!

For years, I’ve thought that I could best help my people by first becoming a teacher and then a lawyer and an advocate or activist.

Along the way I also began working on myself and began to heal. All people, and especially us as indigenous peoples, live through and/or live in a constant state of trauma. And, it was that trauma I constantly resisted and raged against. I lived in a constant state of stress.

The process of resisting and raging creates a traumatic state of stress and other problems inside our hearts, minds and bodies.

From my teen years until 16 years ago, I used alcohol and drugs to create a space where I wasn’t conscious of my trauma and the constant state of trauma in which we live as indigenous peoples. In the beginning, alcohol and drugs provided me relief.

As I moved to sobriety, and began seeking healing both mental and physical, I learned that there is a strong link between between our heart, minds and bodies and our overall health.

Because everything is connected, we can improve in one area, but if we don’t improve in the other areas, our overall progress is limited.

So, now I am focusing on helping others heal!

I’ve always said the best thing we could do for ourselves and our people is to transform ourselves from a state of negative self-medicating victim to positive self-medicating victor!!

If you feel that I can help you with your healing, or someone you know, reach out to me! If I can’t help you, I probably know someone who can!
